Matthew Legan Sanchez is a native of Albuquerque, New Mexico that graduated with distinction from the University of New Mexico, achieving his B.A., in Psychology and Business. During his undergraduate studies, Matthew engaged in a scholarly research project with Derek Hamilton, Ph.D., in the Basic Medical Science Building of UNM’s Health Sciences Center, exploring the cognitive effects of nicotine on one's ability to process and retain new information.
Upon graduation, Matthew entered Law school at UNM, achieving positions on both the Honor Roll and Dean's List, while serving as a research assistant for Sherri L. Burr, a Professor at the UNM School of Law that specializes in Entertainment and Intellectual Property Law. During Matthew’s time as a research assistant for Sherri Burr, he aided in the process of researching case law and articles for her forthcoming legal texts. Matthew also spoke at several workshops in Santa Fe dealing with the legal issues that artists’ encounter with their films, photographs, music, and other intellectual and artistic endeavors, and won a position on the American Intellectual Property Moot Court Team based on a legal brief that he orally argued at competition. Matthew also served as a co-host for the television show Arts Talk, interviewing an Emmy award-winning director, and a critically acclaimed author, during his time at the UNM School of Law. Matthew’s varied legal experience also includes serving as a Clerk for two of New Mexico’s premier law firms: The Branch Law Firm, and Sanchez, Mowrer & Desiderio, P.C. During his tenure at these prestigious Firms, Matthew researched, analyzed, and summarized complex legal issues, composed Pleadings for Federal and State Court, and drafted a wide breadth of contracts and various licensing agreements for prominent businesses across New Mexico. After passing the New Mexico Bar Exam on his first attempt, Matthew was offered a position as an associate at New Mexico's premier Family Law and Criminal Defense law firm, The Family Law Firm, by Felissa Garcia. Matthew is presently serving as the Entertainment and Intellectual Property Law arm of the Firm, drafting contracts, licensing agreements, and a wide range of other Entertainment related documents. In addition to intellectual property issues, Matthew also dedicates his time towards all levels of criminal defense, family law, and personal injury.
